Muscle does not grow during sets at the fitness studio. Muscle repairs and grows during recovery. Diet, hydration and sleep need to be stellar in order for muscles to grow. How much sleep do we need?
Most people agree that people should get 6 to 8 hours of sleep. I find their is a more accurate way of being able to calculate how much sleep a person needs.
What I did was simple, I tested it by not waking up to an alarm clock on a day when I did not need to wake up at a specific time. I went to bed at a normal time that I am used to going to sleep. When I woke up the next day, it was my natural alarm clock was responsible for it.
From then on, I prioritized my sleep so that I could get that amount of sleep every day.
From my experience, it has helped me plan 24 hours of my day; in which my priorities revolve around recovery, rest, fitness, clients, hydration and diet.
Everything is trial and error, everything should be based on science fact and not science fiction/trend. If people are getting the results they want with less sleep, then that’s great news.
If people are not getting the results they would like and find their energy is on the lower end of the spectrum, it could be time for a change.
How much sleep are you getting? How is your energy throughout the day?
